Editorial Feedback
Hollow and Sky offers a limited number of editorial feedback slots for writers seeking thoughtful engagement with their work.
This is not a submission category and is entirely separate from publication consideration. It is intended for writers who feel aligned with the journal’s sensibility and would like careful, thoughtful feedback before continuing to revise, submit, or develop their work.
Feedback may be especially useful for writers who are drawn to Hollow and Sky’s attention to stillness, memory, emotional restraint, the natural world, and work that lingers quietly rather than declares itself loudly.
What You May Submit
You may submit one of the following:
- 1–3 poems
- One piece of prose or creative nonfiction up to 2,500 words
- A small group of visual works with a brief artist note
What You’ll Receive
You will receive a written editorial response that may address:
- What feels strongest in the work
- Where the piece seems most alive
- Places where the work may be over-explaining or withholding too much
- Image, structure, pacing, tone, and ending
- How the work may be experienced by an editor or careful reader
The goal is not to rewrite the work for you, but to offer a clear and attentive reading that helps you better understand what the piece is doing and where it may want to go next.
Availability
Feedback slots are limited.
Editorial feedback is offered outside of Hollow and Sky’s active reading and production periods.
During open submission windows, priority is given to reading journal submissions and preparing upcoming issues. Requests received during an active reading period are welcome, but may not be reviewed until after publication of the current issue.
This allows each submission, whether for publication or feedback, to receive the time and attention it deserves.

Donation-Based
Editorial feedback is offered in exchange for a donation to Hollow and Sky.
As a small independent journal, Hollow and Sky is funded entirely through personal investment and community support. Donations help offset the ongoing costs of maintaining the journal, including website hosting, domain registration, contributor materials, and publication expenses.
There is no set fee. Contributors are invited to donate whatever feels possible and fair.
A donation supports the journal itself and does not guarantee publication, preferential treatment, or future acceptance by Hollow and Sky.
Important Note
Editorial feedback is separate from the journal’s submission process.
Receiving feedback from Hollow and Sky does not influence publication decisions. Work reviewed through this service may be submitted to Hollow and Sky in a future reading period, but it will be read alongside all other submissions according to the needs of that issue.
All editorial feedback is provided personally by Avriel Mejrah and is completed without the use of artificial intelligence.
As with all work affiliated with Hollow and Sky, this feedback process reflects the journal’s commitment to careful human reading, thoughtful editorial engagement, and genuine conversation between writer and editor.
