Community Reflections
Hollow and Sky has always been more than the work published in its pages. It is also the conversations, encouragement, and quiet moments of connection that happen around it.
Whether you discovered the journal as a reader, contributor, artist, or simply someone who found something here, I would be grateful to hear about your experience.
Selected reflections are shared below as part of an ongoing record of the community surrounding Hollow and Sky.
Every step of the process from reading to submitting to acceptance and all the way through to publication was such a joy. I have shared with fellow writers that working with you has been like being at a literary spa. Your compassionate attention to each contributor and their work went above and beyond any experience I’ve had with other magazines. The issue reflects all that love and commitment to excellence. Thank you, Avi.

Seldom have I experienced such a thoughtful editorial process in the acceptance of my work. Avi has created something exceptionally beautiful for the reader but as a contributor, I felt ‘seen’ and valued.

Working with Avi at Hollow and Sky has been a peak experience of my publishing journey thus far. Avi was extremely prompt, kind, and handled my work with utmost care. It’s clear how deeply he cares for every single piece as well as the magazine as a whole. He was organized and added thoughtful touches to each part of the process. I highly recommend submitting your work here — wonderful job, Avi.

I am honored and thrilled to have two new poems fraught with meaning and emotion for me included in Issue Two of Hollow and Sky. The letter I received from Avi accepting these poems was the loveliest one I have ever received from an editor! It was specific, considered, and pointed out the qualities he found in these poems that resonated with him and made them a good fit for this literary journal. Beyond being happy with the acceptance, I felt seen and appreciated on a personal level. I felt a spiritual part of me had found a home. What a gift!

When I submitted to Hollow and Sky, I never would have dreamed I would get to work with such a kindhearted and communicative editor. It is always wonderful to have a piece accepted, but here, I could tell just how much Avi cares about this publication and its writers. I am very grateful to be a part of Hollow and Sky.

I submitted and was rejected from the first two issues. I really like how both times Avi encouraged me to submit again. When I would follow up by email, his responses were thoughtful and made me genuinely want to return. It is a breath of fresh air to have an experience like this with a journal that can make me smile even if my work is not part of it yet.
