Walking Beside the River After Loss
The river keeps doing
what it knows.
It carries leaves,
thin foam,
the echo of yesterday’s rain.
Grief does not stop it.
Nor does it hurry the water.
I walk slowly,
matching my steps
to what remains possible.
Every few minutes,
the river shifts its sound.
I listen,
not for answers,
but for company.
